Prayer for Damar Hamlin

Prayer for Damar Hamlin
Jeff Dean/AP

I was shocked when I watched Damar Hamlin collapse on field. It brought me back to seeing my wife go into sudden cardiac arrest. No doubt, seeing someone experience sudden death is traumatic, especially when it is televised. Everyone is experiencing the same shock together, but it is encouraging to see people rallying in prayer.

I'm also glad to see the awareness of cardiac arrest growing. The more people that know about this, the more lives can be saved.

I wanted to share about some ways we can be praying for Damar and his family, as these next couple of days are critical.

Pray for No Brain Damage

According to statistics you have a 5% or less chance of surviving or recovering for cardiac arrest. Pray for there to be decreased brain swelling and no brain damage. Also pray for recovery of functions such as walking, moving arms and legs, memory, and talking.

Pray Psalm 118:17

"I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the Lord has done."

Prayer Works

It is encouraging to see so many people praying for Damar and his family. Let's keep praying for the miracle. And, yes, it is a miracle for him to recover–most people who experience cardiac arrest do not survive.
